REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team earned a 92-82 win over University of Redlands Wednesday evening in Redlands to move to 1-1 on the season.
The Bulldogs led by as many as nine points in the first half but the Cru fought back, tying the contest at 24. The game saw four lead changes from there before the Bulldogs hit three consecutive three-pointers to take a nine-point lead. UMHB cut the deficit but went into halftime at a four-point gap.
Josiah Johnson led the Cru with 10 points in the half, followed by
Luke Feely with nine. UMHB shot 44.1 percent from the field with seven three-pointers in the half.
Redlands led by as many as seven points early in the second half but UMHB grabbed a lead less than three minutes in on a layup from Feely.
Kyle Wright followed that with a layup for a three-point advantage. The Bulldogs fought back but UMHB's offense responded each time. The Cru led by as many as 14 points in the half, cruising to a 92-82 win.
UMHB saw 24 points off the bench with 42 points in the paint and 12 fast-break points. Johnson led the Cru with 25 points, followed by Feely with 20.
Nathan Stolz (18) and
Ty Prince (14) also recorded double-digit scoring performances while
Kyle Wright led the offense with eight assists. Feely was the leading rebounder for the Cru, bringing down nine boards with Wright just behind him with seven. UMHB shot 49.3 in the contest and 36.0 from beyond the arc. The Crusader defense limited the Bulldogs to a 32.4 field goal percentage in the second half to secure the win.
The Cru returns to action on Friday, November 11
th in a 9 p.m. contest at Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont.
