ATLANTA, Georgia – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team opened the 2022-23 season with a 63-59 road win over Emory University in Atlanta.
The first quarter saw eight lead changes before the Eagles used an eight-point run to hold a 20-15 advantage early in the second quarter. The Cru cut back into the lead with two three-pointers in the final three minutes to go into halftime down 32-30.
UMHB retook the lead three minutes into the second half with a basket behind the arc by Jaycie Brisco. The Cru continued pushing, creating an advantage as big as six with a pair of four-point runs to end third-quarter play up 50-46.
UMHB opened the fourth quarter with four quick points, but the Eagles fought back with an 11-point run to claim a 57-54 lead. The Cru capitalized on free throws, going on a 9-2 run in the final four minutes to secure the 63-59 victory.
Arieona Rosborough led the Cru with 14 points and seven rebounds while
Lauren Baker added eight points. UMHB totaled 12 assists led by Payton Hicks with five. The Cru caused 16 turnovers for the Eagles including 11 steals, led by Brisco with four.
UMHB returns to action Sunday, November 20
th in a 2:00 p.m. (CT) contest against University of Lynchburg in Atlanta.
