MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team fell 66-59 to East Texas Baptist University Saturday afternoon in Marshall. The loss dropped the Cru to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in league play while the Tigers improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in American Southwest Conference action.
East Texas Baptist opened the game with a 6-0 lead, hitting two foul shots and back-to-back layups for the score. UMHB pulled within three but the Tigers held on, ending the first quarter with a 13-9 lead. ETBU hit five foul shots in the quarter while UMHB shot 33.3 percent from the field.
UMHB responded outscoring the Tigers 17-13 in the second quarter. UMHB shot 41.7 percent in the quarter, going 5-for-5 in foul shots and bringing down five offensive rebounds.
Lauren Baker totaled seven points in the first half, followed by
Payton Hicks with six.
ETBU outscored the Cru 22-6 in the third quarter, led by Bridget Upton with nine points. UMHB pulled within five in the fourth but couldn't catch up, falling 66-59 to the Tigers.
Arieona Rosborough led the Cru with 11 points, followed by
Payton Hicks with nine. Hicks also led the Cru with seven total steals, followed by
Jaycie Brisco with five. Rosborough was the Cru's leading rebounder with eight while Hicks added three assists in the contest. UMHB totaled 17 offensive rebounds in the contest with 28 forced turnovers and 27 points off the bench.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, December 15
th in a 5:30 p.m. contest against Howard Payne University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
