BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team cruised to a 93-80 win against Sul Ross State University Saturday at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 5-3 on the year and 3-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 3-7 overall and 1-4 conference action.
Nathan Stolz hit a three-pointer to open the game with a 3-0 lead for the Cru. UMHB pulled ahead with a 10-4 lead to gain a six-point advantage on the Lobos. The Cru led by as many as 10 points in the first half and cruised into halftime up 44-31.
UMHB shot 56.3 percent in the first half, draining seven three pointers.
Josiah Johnson led the Cru with 14 points in the half, followed by
Ty Prince with 12 and
Gibson Hearne with 11.
Hearne opened the second half with a basket as UMHB outscored the Lobos 11-3 in the opening two and a half minutes. UMHB maintained a double-digit lead through the half, leading by as many as 26 points and securing the win at 93-80. Johnson finished with 23 points while Prince added 18.
Gibson Hearne totaled 13 points in the win while
Luke Feely added 11.
UMHB shot 51.4 percent in the contest and 51.9 percent from beyond the arc. The Cru was also five-for-five in foul shots. UMHB scored 16 points off turnovers with 34 points from the bench and 32 points in the paint.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, December 20
th in a 4 p.m. (PST) match at Linfield University in Spokane.
