SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team lost 74-63 to third ranked Trinity University (Texas) Monday evening in San Antonio. The Cru fell to 7-2 on the season while Trinity improved to 10-0 overall.
Trinity took a quick 20-2 lead on UMHB before
Weade Adeleke broke the Cru's drought with a three-pointer at the 2:13 mark. The Tigers kept pushing ending first quarter play up 25-7. UMHB fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 13-11 to cut the gap to 16 at the half. Adeleke led the Cru in the first half with five points while
Jaycie Brisco,
Ashley Faux and
Katelen Brooks each added three.
The Cru used a Brooks three-pointer at the 7:13 mark to spark an 11-point run, knocking the advantage down to nine. UMHB kept battling back with a 7-3 run to bring the contest as close as four with two minutes left in the third. Back-to-back baskets by Adeleke and
Josie Bruder made it a two-point game, but the Tigers capitalized on free throws to close the quarter ahead 50-45.
The Tigers proceeded to pull away in the fourth quarter with a three-point run followed by a five-point run to take a 66-55 lead at the 4:39 mark. The Cru tried to battle back but fell short, finishing the contest down 74-63.
Faux led UMHB, recording a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Adeleke was also a key player for the Cru adding 13 points and eight rebounds. Defensively, UMHB caused the Tigers 27 turnovers, led by
Payton Hicks and
Kenna Gibson with four steals each.
UMHB returns to action Tuesday, December 20
th in a 6:00 p.m. contest against the University of Puget Sound in San Antonio.
