Men’s Basketball edges Sul Ross State

ALPINE, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team claimed a 78-74 win on the road against Sul Ross State University on Saturday afternoon in Alpine. The Cru improved to 19-2 on the season and 14-2 in league play while the Lobos fell to 9-14 overall and 6-12 in ASC play.
 
UMHB started on a five-point run in the first minute of the contest. At the 15:23 mark the Lobos used a five-point run followed by a six-point run to gain a seven-point lead. With seven minutes remaining the Cru capitalized on free baskets sparking a 13-point run to take the advantage. The rest of the half remained in even play and the Cru went into the break ahead 46-36.  
 
The Cru claimed the first two baskets extending their lead to 14. UMHB kept their lead steady with back-and-forth play though the first 15 minutes of play. At the 5:43 mark the Lobos started to cut into the gap with back-to-back three-pointers. UMHB held on with a final basket by Luke Feely to win 78-74.
 
Josiah Johnson led the Cru offensively with 25 points and five assists. Ty Prince and Kyle Wright each added 12 points to UMHB's total 78. Prince and Feely both lead the Cru with seven boards.

UMHB returns to action on Monday, February 14th in a contest against Concordia Texas in Austin.
