ALPINE, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team claimed a 76-66 win on the road against Sul Ross State University on Saturday afternoon in Alpine. The Cru improved to 20-2 on the season and 17-0 in league play while the Lobos fell to 13-10 overall and 9-9 in ASC play.
The contest remained in even play until the 5:37 mark until the Lobos used an eight-point run to gain the advantage on the Cru. UMHB used two final minute baskets by
Alexia Martin and
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen to cut the gap to five going into the second quarter. UMHB started second-quarter play with an eight-point run to reclaim the lead. The last five minutes of the half consisted of only one basket on each side of the court. UMHB went into the half ahead 27-26.
UMHB claimed the first two baskets of the half, but the Lobos continued to answer with alternating baskets. At the 2:08 mark Sul Ross State used a six-point run to knot up the contest 46-46 at the end of the third. The Cru came in strong using a 12-2 run putting them up by 10 at the 6:44 mark. UMHB kept pushing and got their lead to as big as 13 with a layup by
Bethany McLeod. The Cru kept pace, claiming the 76-66 victory.
UMHB's offense was led by
Arieona Rosborough with 16 points and Kollmorgen with 12 points. McLeod led in rebounds with eight while Kollmorgen and
Olivia Champion added seven boards each. The Cru totaled nine steals, led by
Ashley Faux with three.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, February 17
th in a contest against Belhaven in Belton.
