LONGVIEW, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team set a new program record for best opening record with their eighth straight win Thursday evening in Longview. The Cru shutout LeTourneau University 4-0 to open conference play 1-0. The Yellowjackets fell to 2-2-2 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
UMHB took a quick lead with a goal by
Mackenzie Worthy in the second minute of action. The Cru extended the lead with another Worthy score just seven minutes later. UMHB tacked on an insurance goal in the 67
th minute with a
Maria Rico goal assisted by Worthy and
Yuliana Cruz.
Constance White scored the final goal of the contest, finding the net in the 87
th minute off an assist from
Kennedy Harris.
UMHB totaled 26 shots with 11 on goal, led by Rico with eight. Worthy, White and
Breland Mungia each added three shots. The Cru's backline allowed just three shots in the contest, securing the 4-0 shutout.
The Cru returns to action Saturday, October 1
st in a 12:00 p.m. contest against East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
