BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team fought back from a first-set defeat to earn a 3-1 win over Hendrix College Saturday afternoon in Belton.
Hendrix jumped to an early lead in the first set and did not let up, earning a 25-17 win. UMHB fought back in the second, using a pair of 4 -0 runs to win advantage. UMHB won the set 25-13 and took a two-point lead to open the third. Hendrix tied the set at two and played within five point but the Cru fought off a late Warrior surge to seal the 25-22 win. UMHB led by as many as seven points in the fourth set but Hendrix fought back to tie it at 20.
Katie Warden hit back-to-back kills to give the Cru a two-point lead before
Jenci Seahorn hit a kill to put the Cru up by three. Another Warden kills and an attack error from Hendrix sealed the fourth-set win and match for UMHB.
Warden led the Cru with 19 kills, hitting .432 in the match.
Kaylie Vasil added 11 kills while
Hannah Frasca added eight. UMHB totaled 55 kills on 154 attacks for a .253 percentage.
Sydney Bowen led the Cru with 37 assists while
Ella Brunson added five. Defensively,
Maddie Gillispie led the Cru with 27 digs followed by
Hannah Frasca with 24. Alyssa Christian and
Kaylie Vasil also added double-digit blocks while
Jenci Seahorn dominated at the net, totaling seven blocks. UMHB had 11 team blocks in the match with 86 total digs.
UMHB opens the road schedule next week in a 6 p.m. match at East Texas Baptist University on Thursday, September 8
th. The Cru then plays a quad of matches in Houston before travelling to Abilene on Tuesday, September 13
th.
