BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team defeated McMurry University 71-60 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improved to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in American Southwest Conference play, while the War Hawks fell to 8-7 on the season and 2-7 in league play.
The War Hawks scored first with two foul shots before the Cru tied it with a jumper from
Jaycie Brisco in the fourth minute. UMHB knotted-up the contest again at seven with a
Kenna Gibson basket at the 3:53 mark. The War Hawks kept pushing to hold the lead, ending the first quarter of play ahead 11-9.
The Cru took their first lead two minutes into the second quarter with a
Lauren Baker jump shot to make the score 14-13. The contest saw three more lead changes before going scoreless for 1:30. A basket from
Addy Self brought UMHB ahead 22-17. The Cru held the high ground in the final minutes of the half to hold the advantage 31-27.
UMHB opened the second half with a 6-2 run to go ahead by eight. The contest continued in even play through the third quarter. The Cru claimed three points in the final seconds to enter the final quarter ahead by nine.
The fourth quarter proceeded in back-and-fourth play, until the War Hawks used a nine-point run to bring the contest within two. UMHB answered with back-to-back three-pointers to bring the lead back to eight. UMHB kept pushing to claim the victory 71-60 over the War Hawks.
Rosborough led the Cru with 18 points while
Kenna Gibson added 11.
Jaycie Brisco led in rebounds, adding seven of UMHB's 47 total. The Cru recorded 12 steals, led by Rosborough and
Addy Self with three each.
UMHB continues the five-game home stand on Saturday, January 21st in a 1 p.m. contest against Concordia University Texas at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
