BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team fell to East Texas Baptist University 67-61 Thursday evening in Belton. The loss dropped the Cru to 13-5 on the season and 8-3 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers improved to 14-5 overall and 8-4 in league play.
ETBU opened the game with a three-pointer at 8:29 before
Lauren Baker responded with a basket at 7:53. The Tigers pulled again with a jumper at 7:39 but UMHB fought back, tying the score at seven with 5:23 left in the first quarter.
Payton Hicks gave the Cru its first lead of the game with a jumper at 3:42. The game continued back-and-forth action, going into the second quarter at a 13-13 tie.
Lauren Baker led the Cru with six points in the quarter, while
Kenna Gibson added three.
UMHB's offense exploded in the second quarter as UMHB shot 62.5 percent from the field.
Weade Adeleke opened the half with nine points in the first three minutes, putting the Cru ahead 24-18. UMHB led by as many as 12 points in the quarter and went into halftime up by seven. Adeleke led the Cru with nine points in the quarter while
Kenna Gibson added eight first half points. UMHB shot 48.5 percent in the first half with five three-pointers and eight points off turnovers.
East Texas Baptist regained the lead at the 7:16 mark in the third quarter and held advantage until
Lauren Baker hit a three-pointer for the Cru at the 1:43 mark. UMHB held the lead through the remainder of the quarter, going into the fourth quarter up 51-47.
The Tigers tied the game at 51 with 6:49 to play and took the lead at the 5:42 mark. The Tigers held on to advantage through the quarter, sealing the 67-61 win. UMHB shot 37.3 percent in the contest with Rosborough leading the Cru with 12 points. Adeleke added 11 points with Baker scoring nine. UMHB totaled 31 rebounds in the contest, led by Rosborough and
Addy Self with 32. Rosborough also added a team-high two steals while she and
Lauren Baker each had four assists. UMHB limited the Tigers to a 37.9 percentage in the contest, forcing 16 turnovers in the contest.
UMHB closes out the five-game home stand on Saturday, January 28
th in a 1:00 p.m. match against LeTourneau University at Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
