Women’s Soccer scores five unanswered at Sul Ross State

ALPINE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team scored five unanswered goals at Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon in Alpine. The win improved the Cru to 11-0 on the season while the Lobos fell to 2-9 overall.
 
UMHB's offense exploded halfway through the first half of action, scoring three goals in nine minutes and adding two more for a five-goal lead. Kelsey White opened scoring, finding the low right corner off an assist from Kennedy Harris in the 20th minute. Mackenzie Worthy found the back of the net in the 27th minute off a Jayme Dowell assist before Breland Mungia scored less than two minutes later off another Harris assist. Ella Ruff scored the Cru's fourth goal, finding the low right corner on a pass from Natalie Mason before Abigail Hickman scored the final first-half goal in the 43rd minute for the five-goal margin.
 
The Cru totaled 12 first-half shots, putting seven on frame and scoring on five. UMHB's defense allowed the Lobos just two total shots in the half while goalkeeper Ainsley Westlake made one save. UMHB held the Lobos scoreless in the second half of action to secure its ninth shutout of the season.
 
UMHB totaled 24 shots in the contest, led by Worthy with four.  The Cru defense limited Sul Ross State to just five total shots and only four on frame. Westlake earned the shutout for the Cru, making four saves in the complete 90-minute game.
 
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, October 12th in a 5 p.m. contest against University of the Ozarks at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
