FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team defeated Pacific University 58-44 Saturday night in Forest Grove. The Cru improved to 3-1 on the season while the Boxers fell 1-2 overall.
UMHB opened the contest with 18 unanswered first quarter points. A duo of layups and a foul shot from
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen and
Arieona Rosborough brought the Cru to 5-0 at the 7:15 mark. UMHB went up by 14 in the next two minutes, led by
Alexis Carmosino with five points. The Cru added two more baskets from Rosborough and
Ashley Faux to go ahead 18-0 before the final three minutes remained scoreless.
The Boxers closed their scoring drought on the first possession of the second quarter, sinking three-pointer. UMHB responded with 5-1 run to extend their lead 23-4 at the 7:54 mark. The quarter played even until the final three minutes when the Cru went on a 4-2 run to close the half ahead 30-11.
Faux led UMHB through the first half with nine points and nine rebounds.
Lauren Baker and Rosborough each added five to the Cru's 30 total points. UMHB recorded six steals, led by Carmosino with three.
Carmosino opened third quarter action with a quick jumper before the Boxers went on an eight-point run. Rosborough and
Remi Adeleke added four more for the Cru but the Boxers responded with a 6-2 run to cut the gap to 38-25 at the 4:31 mark. UMHB added two more baskets to bring the lead back to 17. The Boxers kept the Cru scoreless in the final two minutes while adding four more points to end the quarter with UMHB up 42-29.
Adeleke and Baker each added a layup to start the final quarter. The Cru scored five more unanswered points to go ahead by 19 at the 5:48 mark. The Boxers continued fighting, using a 10-1 run to cut the gap to 10 with less than three minutes remaining. UMHB added two more baskets in the final minutes to secure the 58-44 victory.
Faux recorded a double-double on the night with 15 rebounds and 11 points. Adeleke also added 11 points while Carmosino tacked on nine to the Cru's 58.
Jaycie Brisco was big under the net for UMHB with nine rebounds.
UMHB returns to action in their home opener on Monday, November 27
th in a 5:00 p.m. contest against Schreiner University in Belton.
