Women’s soccer falls short in ASC Championship

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team dropped a one-goal decision to Hardin-Simmons University in the American Southwest Conference Championship match Saturday evening in Abilene.
The first half included competitive plays paired with solid defense from both teams. The Cru ended the first half with six shots with one on goal by Mackenzie Worthy. The Cowgirls put up 12 shots in the half, with two on goal.
UMHB recorded six first-half shots with one on-frame from Mackenzie Worthy. Hardin-Simmons totaled 12 shots in the half with two on goal. 
Kaylee Maddox scored the go-ahead goal for the Cowgirls in the 61st minute, giving the Cowgirls a one-goal lead. UMHB's offense was persistent with shots on frame from Jayme Dowell, Ashley Vensel and Breland Mungia, but the Cowgirls held on for the 1-0 shutout. 
Worthy and Mungia led the Cru with three shots each while Vensel put up two. Reagan Williams played the whole match in the net for the Cru, allowing one goal with four saves. Hayley Foley earned the shutout for Hardin-Simmons, making five saves.
Mackenzie Worthy, Malyn Martinson and Kelsey White all earned all-tournament honors. 
UMHB moved to 16-1-1 on the season with the loss. The Cru will await their fate in the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The bracket for the 2023 tournament will be announced on ncaa.com on Monday, November 6th at 12:30 p.m.
