NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team opened a two-game streak in New York City with a 74-40 win over Berry College Tuesday afternoon. The win improved the Cru to 10-1 on the season while the Vikings went to 4-5 overall.
UMHB opened the contest on a 4-0 run before a three-pointer from Elly Callihan put the Vikings on the board. The Cru pulled away again with a six-point run but six more unanswered points from Callihan cut the gap to just one with 5:00 to go in the first quarter. The lead stayed within one possession until the final 1:08 when UMHB closed the frame on a six-point run, highlighted by a three-pointer at the buzzer from
Lauren Baker.
Arieona Rosborough opened the second quarter with a layup, giving UMHB a double-digit lead. The Cru added two more buckets before Berry got on the scoreboard at the 7:48 mark. UMHB did not allow the Vikings another point until the 5:57 mark, taking a 33-17 lead and cruising to a 41-28 lead at the half.
UMHB's defense highlighted the second half of action, allowing the Vikings just 12 total points in the final 20 minutes of play. Berry shot 30.7 percent in the third quarter and 14.29 percent in the fourth.
Rosborough led the Cru with 18 points while
Ashley Faux added 13 and Baker had 10 as UMHB shot 45.3 percent in the contest. Baker led the Cru with five assists, followed by Rosborough with four. Faux was also the Cru's leading rebounder with six boards as UMHB outrebounded the Vikings 41-34 in the contest. She also had a team-high six steals in the contest.
UMHB returns to action on Wednesday, December 20
th in a 12 p.m. contest against Millsaps College in New York City.
