AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team defeated Concordia University Texas 78-70 Saturday afternoon in Austin. The Cru improved to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in in American Southwest Conference action while the Tornados fell to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in ASC play.
The Tornados opened the contest with a duo of three-pointers before a
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen jumper and foul shot got UMHB on the board. Concordia continued to increase their lead back to six, but a 7-2 run by the Cru brought them within one. UMHB used back-to-back three-pointer to take their first lead 18-15 at the 1:33 mark. The Cru continued fighting, closing the quarter ahead 23-17.
The second quarter only saw three baskets until the 4:36 mark when the Tornados knotted it up 25-25. UMHB responded with a 7-1 run to go back ahead 32-26, led by
Lauren Baker with five points. The Tornados answered with a 6-2 run to bring the contest to 34-32 with 0:43 left in the half.
Arieona Rosborough added three free throws to close the half on the high ground 37-32.
Rosborough tacked on a jumper to open the second half before the Tornados scored six unanswered points to close the gap 39-38. UMHB responded with a 15-1 run to extend their lead 54-39 at the 4:19 mark. The Cru continued pushing forward, creating a lead as large as 22 before closing the half up 64-47.
The final quarter remained scoreless Rosborough added a basket at the 8:03 mark. Concordia fought back with a 7-2 run to cut the gap to 14. The contest proceeded basket-for-basket until the 4:02 mark when the Tornados scored 11 unanswered points. The Cru held them to just one more basket to secure the 78-70 victory.
Rosborough led UMHB with 20 points while
Alexis Carmosino and
Remi Adeleke each added 12.
Jaycie Brisco led the Cru with nine boards while Rosborough led with four steals and two blocks.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, December 7
th in a 5:30 p.m. contest against LeTourneau University in Belton.
