Men’s Basketball earns 90-65 win over Ozarks

BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team earned a 90-65 win over University of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 19-4 on the season and 14-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles fell to 8-15 overall and 3-13 in league play.
 
The first half played between two points until Ozarks took a three-point lead with a three-pointer at the 13:10 mark. The Eagles extended the lead to six before Zach Engels hit a three-pointer at the 11:49 mark to cut the gap to three. UMHB continued to chip away at the lead, taking the advantage off a jumper from Jerry Day, Jr. at the 4:12 mark. UMHB went on a 10-0 run from there to take an 11-point lead and went into halftime up 46-37.
 
Prince led the Cru with 18 points in the first half while Josiah Johnson added eight. UMHB shot 44.7 from the field off 17 field goals and five three-pointers. The Cru totaled 20 points in the paint, scoring nine off second-chances and eight off fast breaks.
 
Trace Richey hit a three-pointer at the 12:57 mark in the second half to put the Cru up by 20 points. UMHB cruised from there, earning a 90-65 win over the Eagles. Prince led the Cru with 21 points, followed by Josiah Johnson with 14 and D.J. Kane with 11. UMHB shot 44.3 percent in the contest and 29 percent from beyond the arc, sinking nine three-pointers in the contest. The Cru had 22 points off turnovers, 36 points in the paint and 40 points from the bench. UMHB out-rebounded the Eagles 48-37, forcing 15 turnovers with 11 total steals.
 
UMHB closes out the regular season next week in a pair of road matches in Abilene. UMHB will play McMurry University on Thursday, February 16th before taking on Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday, February 18th.
