BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team closed the regular season with a 15-4 loss to Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon in Belton.

The final game of the series started on Friday afternoon, however, due to weather, the remainder of the game was pushed back until Saturday. Play resumed in the bottom of the second with Sul Ross leading 1-0, after they scored in the first inning on Friday.

Rahul Champaneri, who started the beginning of game Friday, returned to the mound for the Cru on Saturday. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, UMHB's bats woke up.
Hayden Guerin led off the inning with a single to get the momentum going for the Cru.
Hunter Jones,
Robert McCall and
Shane Melick followed that with singles of their own. McCall and Melick each recorded an RBI on the inning, shrinking the Lobos lead to just one.

Champaneri maintained momentum for the Cru in the top of the fifth, striking out three straight batters after a leadoff single. The Lobos added five runs in the top of the sixth, three coming on a three-run homerun.

UMHB answered back in the seventh, after singles by
Blake Harmon,
Drake Herrera and
Hayden Guerin loaded the bases.
Rhett Grosz drove in Harmon after being hit by a pitch, cutting the deficit to five runs.Â
The Lobos scored seven runs in the top of the eighth to take a double-digit lead on the Cru. UMHB's
Robert McCall led off the bottom of that inning with a single, before
Blake Harmon singled in McCall's pinch runner for the Cru's fourth run. UMHB wasn't able to score another run, falling 15-4 to the Lobos.Â

Champaneri took the loss for the Cru allowing one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts. Dawson Beard earned the win for the Lobos, throwing 3.2 innings while allowing two runs on five hits. UMHB also saw mound appearances from
Russell Vadala,
Jacob Haynes,
Alex Palczewski and
Nicklas Fenner. UMHB totaled 12 hits, led by
Blake Harmon with three and an RBI.

Alex Palczewski. The Cru closed the regular season with an overall record of 14-21 and 9-18 in ASC action.
