DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team opened the 2023 campaign with a 1-0 win over UW-Whitewater Friday evening in Duluth.
UMHB opened with a dominant first half, taking eight shots while limiting the Warhawks to just one. Jayme Dowell found the back of the net in the 21st minute to give the Cru a 1–0 lead. UMHB continued to outshoot UWW, recording seven second-half shots to the Warhawks' four and cruised to a 1-0 lead in the season opener.
Ashley Vensel led the Cru with four shots each while Breland Mungia and Dowell each added three. Natalie Mason and Vensel both led the Cru with two shots on goal. Reagan Williams and Ainsley Westlake split time in the net for the Cru. Westlake made one save while Williams faced no shots.
UMHB continues action on Sunday, September 3rd in an 11 a.m. match against College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. The Cru will open home action on Saturday, September 9th in a 7 p.m. contest against Ohio Northern University at the Cru Soccer Field in Belton.
