GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over Southwestern University Tuesday evening in Georgetown. The win improved the Cru to 4-0 on the season while the Pirates fell to 0-4-1.
The first half of action played scoreless with the Cru totaling 10 shots and allowing the Pirates just three. UMHB made one save in the half and took six corner kicks.
Jayme Dowell gave the Cru a lead less than four minutes into the second half, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 49
th minute. Southwestern responded in the 60
th minute with a goal from Samantha Hazen before
Ashley Vensel assisted a
Mackenzie Worthy goal in the 67
Th minute, sealing the 2-1 win.
UMHB totaled 22 shots, putting 12 on frame. Worthy led the Cru with seven total shots, followed by
Breland Mungia and
Tanner Jarzombek with three each. Worthy also had a team-high five shots on frame, followed by Mungia with two. The Crusader defense allowed the Pirates just eight total shots and only two on frame.
Ainsley Westlake allowed one goal for the Cru while
Reagan Williams made one save.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, September 22d in a 7 p.m. contest against Texas Lutheran University at the Cru Soccer Field in Belton. UMHB also hosts UW-Stevens Point at home on Saturday, September 23
