BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Schreiner University 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improved to 3-0 on season while Schreiner fell to 1-2 overall. 

The contest began point-for-point, until a Dravyn Hurd kill sparked a 6-2 run by the Cru to go ahead 12-8. UMHB capitalized on hitting errors to increase their lead to seven, before allowing the Mountaineers just two more points in the 25-12 win. 

Second-set action played close until three blocks in a row from Natalie Hughes established a 6-3 lead for UMHB. The Cru continued pulling away with a five-point run followed by a three-point run to lead 21-15. Schreiner fought back, bringing the contest within four, but UMHB held on to claim the set 25-21. The Mountaineers held the lead in the third set until the 18-16 mark when the Cru went on two five-point runs to finish the sweep with a 25-23 victory. 

Hurd led the Cru with 10 kills, while recording a .421 hitting percentage. The UMHB offense was anchored by Kendall Harrington with 17 assists and Ella Brunson with 13. Defensively, the Cru totaled eight blocks, led by Hughes who played a role in all eight. UMHB also had a strong presence behind the line recording eight service aces, led by Hannah Frasca with three. 

UMHB returns to action on September 7th in a 4:00 p.m. match against Belhaven University in Jacksonville, Miss.
