Women’s Soccer shuts out East Texas Baptist

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to earn a 2-0 win over East Texas Baptist University Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 8-0 on the season and opened UMHB at 1-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers fell to 3-1-3 overall and 0-1 in league action. 

The first half of action played scoreless with UMHB outshooting the Tigers 8-3 in the period. East Texas Baptist had a solid look in the 29th minute but a diving save from Reagan Williams held the tie at 0-0. 

UMHB scored the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute when Jayme Dowell one-touched a throw-in from Kennedy Harris for a 1-0 lead. UMHB added an insurance goal in the 74th minute when Ashley Vensel broke away off a pass from Kelsey White to bury a shot in the bottom right corner. UMHB held the two-goal lead through the half to earn its eighth win of the season. 

Constance White and Maren Fields led the Cru with three shots each while six other Crusaders each added two. UMHB totaled 21 shots in the contest with nine on frame. The Cru defense limited the Tigers to just seven shots with only on frame. 

Reagan Williams earned the shutout for the Cru with a full 90 minutes in the net while Addison Funk took the loss for the Tigers. 

UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 30th in a 5 p.m. match against LeTourneau University at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton.
