Volleyballs beats UT Dallas in five

RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a five-set win over UT Dallas Saturday afternoon in Richardson. The win improved the Cru to 15-1 on the season and 5-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Comets fell to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in league play.
 
UMHB opened with a 6-2 lead on the Comets and maintained the high ground, cruising to a 25-20 win in the first set. UT Dallas opened the second set with a lead and held on early. UMHB pulled within one but the Comets scored back-to-back points to extend the gap. The Cru fought back again and took a lead at 20-18 before UT Dallas scored four unanswered points to go up 22-20 and win the set 25-21. The third set played back-and-forth with UMHB winning 25-22 before the Comets used a strong fourth set to even the contest with a 25-11 win.
 
UT Dallas opened the fifth set with a point but a kill from Hannah Frasca knotted it at one. UT Dallas went ahead again but UMHB stayed in, holding within three points for the majority. The Cru used a 4-0 run late in the set to take a 13-11 lead then sealed the win with a pair of kills from Katie Warden.
 
Hannah Frasca led the Cru with 21 kills while Warden added 16. UMHB totaled 59 kills on 179 total attacks for a .196 percentage in the match. Kendall Harrington led the Cru with 26 total assists while Ella Brunson added 23. Frasca was the Cru's defensive leader with 23 digs while Maddie Gillispie added 15.
 
UMHB returns to action on Friday, October 6th in a pair of matches against Howard Payne University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
