Women’s Basketball earns road win over LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor's women's basketball team earned a 62-55 road win over LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in Longview. The Cru improved to 17-2 overall and 10-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the YellowJackets fell to 5-15 on the season and 2-10 in ASC play.

UMHB took a quick lead with a 9-1 run, led by Jaycie Brisco with four points. The YellowJackets tacked on five points before the Cru scored nine unanswered to go ahead by three at the 3:20 mark. LeTourneau fought back in the final minutes of the quarter to close the gap to seven with UMHB ahead 22-15.

UMHB's Meagan Johnson had an explosive start to the second quarter, scoring all eight points for the Cru in the first five minutes of the quarter. Lauren Baker tacked on a layup to bring the lead to 13 before the Cru entered a three-minute scoring drought. The YellowJackets proceeded on a 7-1 run, but Remi Adeleke and Alexis Carmosino added back-to-back baskets to close the half up 37-26.

The YellowJackets opened the second half with an 8-2 run to cut the margin to five. Josie Bruder responded with a basket behind the arc at the 4:44 mark. LeTourneau added five more unanswered points to bring the game within three with 2:11 left in the third. Johnson and Bruder led the Cru on a 6-2 run in the final two minutes to end the quarter ahead 48-41.

The final quarter saw a duo of foul shots on both ends of the court before the YellowJackets sunk two baskets to bring the gap down to three. UMHB brought their lead back to eight with a 7-2 run at the 4:42 mark. The Cru added five final points from the free throw line to secure the 62-55 victory.

Johnson led UMHB with 12 points, while Baker and Bruder each added 11 and Carmosino had 10. The Cru totaled 40 rebounds, led by Carmosino with nine boards. UMHB forced the YellowJackets into 26 turnovers, including 14 steals, led by Brisco with six.

UMHB returns to action Thursday, February 1st in a 5:30 p.m. contest against Sul Ross State University in Belton.
