KERVILLE, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball dropped a 3-1 match to Schreiner University Wednesday evening in Kerrville. The non-conference loss moves the Cru's record to 19-6 overall while Schreiner now has a 10-11 record on the season.
The Mountaineers took the early 3-1 lead in the first set, but back-to-back kills from
Baylee Mobley and
Raylee Schaffner knotted the set at four. After a few attack errors from the Cru, Schreiner led the set 11-7 and held the lead until UMHB responded with kills from
Cameron Pesek and
Kendall Harrington tying the game at 17. The set played back-and-forth from there but the Mountaineers were able to come out on top, obtaining the first-set victory 25-22. The next set was played point-for-point, with seven tied scores throughout. The Cru retained the advantage after a four-point streak putting the score at 12-8. Shortly after, Schreiner went on a run of five points to put them ahead 15-14, ultimately winning them the set 25-21. The Cru came out swinging in the third set with 17 of their 26 points scored being kills. The set victory was sealed with a
Natalie Hughes block, followed by a kill from Schaffner to win in extra points. The Mountaineers finished out the match and secured the victory with a 25-21 fourth-set win.
Despite the loss, the Cru out-numbered Schreiner in kills, assists and digs. Mobley, who led the Cru in kills with 12 along with 12 digs, and Harrington, who led in assists tallying 19 with 16 digs, both had double-doubles on the night. Libero
Caiden Lasala held down the court defensively with 28 digs.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, October 25
th in a 6:00 PM match against UT Dallas in Belton.
