Women’s Soccer edges Howard Payne

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned a one-goal win over Howard Payne University Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 10-2-2 on the season and 4-1-0 in American Southwest Conference while the Yellow Jackets fell to 7-8-1 overall and 3-4 in league play.
 
Natalie Mason scored the go-ahead goal for the Cru in the 32nd minute, hitting in a deflected pass off a defender for the 1-0 lead. UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 7-2 in the contest, putting five on frame. Kennedy Harris led the Cru with two shots while five other Crusaders each added one.
 
The Cru held the margin through the remainder of the half to secure the one-goal victory. UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 10-4 in the second half, putting six on frame and not allowing Howard Payne a look on goal.
 
Mason led the Cru with four shots while Ella Wheeless and Kennedy Harris each added three. UMHB put up 17 total shots in the contest with 11 on frame. The Cru defense limited the Yellow Jackets to just six shots in the match and only three on goal. Morgan Oliver and Emma Edwards split time in the net with Oliver making two saves in the match.
 
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 26th in a 5 p.m. contest against Hardin-Simmons University at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton. The Cru is also hosting a Pink Zone at Saturday's game and raising money for women's soccer alum Megan Whiddon.
