ABILENE, Texas -The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win at Hardin-Simmons University Thursday night in Abilene. The win improved the Cru to 4-6-1 on the season and opened them at 1-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowboys fell to 6-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
The first half played scoreless with the Cowboys outshooting the Cru 9-7 in the frame. The drought held until the 76
th minute when
Evan Ruiz scored off a shot into the lower left corner for a 1-0 Cru lead. UMHB added an insurance goal in the 85
th minute off a converted penalty kick from
Karsen Macias to extend the lead to two. The Cru held that margin through regulation to earn the 2-0 victory.
Peyton Hoyt led the Cru with four shots while
Chase Cherrington and
Karsen Macias each added two. Macias also tallied a team-high three shots on frame, followed by
Evan Ruiz with two. UMHB totaled 19 shots in the contest, putting 10 on frame.
The Crusader defense allowed just three shots on frame with goalkeeper
Hayden Owens playing a full 90-minutes in the contest, making three saves.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 3
