BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Howard Payne University 2-1 Saturday evening in Brownwood. The win improved the Cru to 5-5-1 on the season and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-8-3 overall and 0-3 in league play.
UMHB got on the board within the first minute of play when
Peyton Hoyt scored just 40 seconds into play. That score held through the half as UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 8-5 in the frame.
Howard Payne scored the equalizer early in the second half, netting a goal just four minutes into action. UMHB went back ahead in the 58
th minute off a goal from
Chase Cherrington, securing the Cru's 2-1 victory.
Cherrington led the Cru with four shots, putting three on frame in the contest.
Peyton Hoyt and
Karsen Macias each added two shots with Hoyt putting both of his on frame.
Hayden Owens earned the win in the net, making four saves in a full 90-minute contest.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, October 10
th in a 7:30 p.m. contest against LeTourneau University at the Cru Soccer Field in Belton.
