Men's Soccer edges ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 5-4 win over East Texas Baptist University Thursday evening in Marshall. The win improved the Cru to 9-6-2 on the season and 6-0-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers fell to 9-6-2 overall and 6-0-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers fell to 8-8-1 overall and 3-4-1 in league play. 

Karsen Macias struck first for the Cru, scoring off a pass from Aidan Aguilera for a 1-0 lead. Evan Ruiz tacked on another goal for the Cru in the 15th minute, scoring off an assist from Peighton Raisey for a 2-0 lead. Dylan Vadnais added another goal in the 26th minute, followed by goals from Nicholas Arellano (35th minute) and Korbin Purvis (39th minute) for the 5-0 lead. 

Aguilera led the Cru with three shots, followed by five other Crusaders with two shots each. 

ETBU added goals in the 53rd, 55th and 62nd minutes to cut the gap to two goals. The Tigers added another goal in the 85th minute to close the margin again to just one goal. UMHB held on, securing the 5-4 win. 

UMHB outshot the Tigers 28-18 in the contest, putting 13 shots on frame. Karsen Macias led the Cru with five total shots while Aidan Aguilera added four. Hayden Owen's earned the win in the net, making five saves in the full contest.

UMHB returns to action on Saturday, November 2nd in a 7:30 p.m. contest at LeTourneau University in Longview.
