Volleyball falls to University of California, Santa Cruz

HOUSTON, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball dropped a 3-1 match to the University of California, Santa Cruz Friday afternoon in Houston. The Cru's overall record drops to 20-7 while UC Santa Cruz moves to 12-12 in their season.
 
The Cru took an early 4-1 lead in the first set, earning all four points off kills from Kendall Harrington, Sifa Olang and two from Baylee Mobley. The Slugs then tied the match at seven, continuing back-and-forth play through the remainder of the set. UMHB sealed a 25-23 first-set victory with a kill from Peyton Sedlacek. The second set continued in even play until a UCSC three-point run giving the Slugs an 18-15 lead. UCSC took control of the set and won 25-19, tying the match at one set each. The Slugs had the upper hand through the majority of the third set holding an 11-point lead at one point. The Cru came back fighting with a seven-point run to make the score 23-22. After a hard-fought battle, UCSC came out on top 25-23. The Slugs took an early lead in the fourth set and the Cru was unable to respond, dropping the set 25-12. UCSC took the match win 3-1.
 
Baylee Mobley led the Cru in kills tallying 11, with three other Crusaders adding six each. Kendall Harrington had the most assists for UMHB with 14, adding another double-double to her career with 10 digs. Caiden Lasala tallied 19 digs and two service aces in the match.
 
UMHB returns to action November 2nd in a 3:00 PM match to close out regular season play against University of St. Thomas in Houston.
