AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team earned a 20+ point win over Southwestern University Friday in Georgetown. The win improved the Cru to 2-0 on the season while the Pirates moved to 0-2.
UMHB jumped to an early lead in the first half, but the Pirates evened the contest at five then took the ensuing 8-7 lead. Southwestern held the margin, going ahead by as many as eight and ending the first frame with a 17-15 lead.
Jaycie Brisco evened the contest at 17 with an early layup in the second quarter. The frame played back-and-forth with UMHB leading by as many as 11 and going into halftime up 34-25 in the second quarter. The Cru maintained the double-digit advantage in the third, leading by as many as 20 before an offensive surge ended the quarter with a 21-point Cru lead.
The Cru held on to the 20-point lead, securing the 65-42 victory.
Jaycie Brisco led the Cru with 16 points while
Adyson James added 10. UMHB shot 38.1 percent in the frame with 24 field goals and five three-pointers. Brisco also added a team-high 16 rebounds, followed by James with 10.
UMHB returns to action on Wednesday, November 20
th in a 4 p.m. contest against Schreiner University in Kerrville.
