KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team earned a 56-43 win at Schreiner University Wednesday afternoon in Kerrville.  UMHB improved to 3-0 on the season while the Mountaineers moved to 1-4.
 
Schreiner jumped to an early 9-0 lead in the first before 
Adyson James broke the drought with a jumper at the 6:37 mark. The Mountaineers responded to regain a double-digit margin and held the high ground through the quarter, going into the second frame up 13-9.
 
UMHB opened the second quarter with a pair of free throws to cut the gap to two but Schreiner continued to score, staying on top until 
Karlee Cronk hit a three-pointer at 5:11 to put the Cru ahead by one. The game played back-and-forth from there with Jaydee Zamora hitting a three-pointer at 13 seconds to put Schreiner ahead 26-24 at the end of the second.
 
Jaycie Brisco opened the third quarter with a three-pointer at 8:36 to put UMHB on top by one. The game played basket-for-basket until a jumper from James put the Cru up by four and a three-pointer from 
Katelen Brooks extended the lead to seven. UMHB stayed on top for the duration of the quarter, going into the final frame with a 42-37 lead.
 
Schreiner cut the lead to four with 6:44 to play off another Zamora three-pointer but the Cru responded, extended the gap to eight and maintaining the margin, cruising to a 56-43 win.
 
James led the Cru with 12 points while Brisco added 10. UMHB shot 34.9 percent in the contest with 22 field goals. Brisco recorded a team-high 15 rebounds as 
Remi Adeleke added seven. Cronk and 
Mikyla Bachert were the Cru's assist leaders with two each while Brisco added a team-high four steals.
 
UMHB returns to action in Colorado Springs on Friday, November 29
th. The Cru will play Colorado College on November 29
th at 1 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. contest against Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, November 30
th.
