Basketball earns double-digit win over Concordia Moorhead

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team earned a 73-61 win over Concordia College Moorhead Sunday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 10-3 on the season while the Cobbers fell to 4-7.   
 
The Cru opened the game with five unanswered points thanks to baskets from Eli Beard at 18:31 and 16:48. Jacob Cook put the Cobbers on the board at 16:34 before Co Rose hit a three-pointer 20 seconds later for an 8-2 UMHB lead. The Cru continued on a 13-4 run through the first half of the frame and held on to the double-digit lead. Another jumper from Rose at 6:19 put the Cru up by 15 and UMHB extended that lead to 22 off a three-pointer from Maurice Pinnock at 2:24.
 
UMHB shot 48.5 percent in the first half, holding a 42-20 lead at halftime. Beard and Pinnock led with 13 points each while Co Rose added seven points.
 
Concordia Moorehead opened the second half with an 11-0 run, cutting the gap to just 11. Zachary Engels ended the drought with a jumper at 16:11 but the Cobbers continued to press, cutting the lead to nine with 15:02 to go. The game toggled from there with UMHB staying ahead by at least two possessions, cruising to a 73-61 victory.
 
Eli Beard led the Cru with 18 points while Maurice Pinnock added 15. Josh Goings also finished in double-digits with 11 points while Co Rose added nine. UMHB shot 44.6 percent in the contest, making nine three-pointers.
 
Beard also led the Cru with seven rebounds, followed by Goings with six. Goings added a team-high three assists as Donta Coady and Zachary Engels each added two steals
 
UMHB returns to action on Monday, December 30th in a 4 p.m. contest against Illinois Wesleyan University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
