MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped the series finale to East Texas Baptist University Saturday afternoon in Marshall. The Tigers improved to 17-1 on the season and 9-0 in American Southwest Conference play while the Cru fell to 8-11 overall and 2-7 in league play.
East Texas Baptist used a trio of home runs to earn the 6-0 lead on the Cru. Madalyn Melton hit a solo home run in the second inning to put the Tigers on top. The Cru put a runner on in the third inning with a single from
Shorey Nguyen but UHB wasn't able to score. ETBU extended the lead with a three-RBI home run from Haylie Stum in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
The Tigers added two more runs on a home run from Tristan Maddox in the sixth inning to secure the 6-0 victory.
UMHB totaled three hits in the contest with
Allyse Castillo,
Bailey Frenzel and
Shorey Nguyen each recording one. UMHB totaled three hits and two errors in the contest while the Tigers had six runs on eight hits with no errors.
Chloee Mason took the loss for UMHB, pitching 5.2 innings with two strikeouts.
UMHB returns to action next week in a three-game series against LeTourneau University at Dee Dillon Field in Belton. The series will open in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday, March 28
th and close in a 12 p.m. single on Friday, March 29
th.
