Softball falls to McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team fell to McMurry University 6-4 Saturday afternoon in Abilene. The Cru fell to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in American Southwest Conference play while the War Hawks improved to 9-3 on the season and 4-2 in ASC action. 

The War Hawks scored early with an RBI single from Morgan Faubion to score Angelica Abila in the first inning. McMurry extended the margin 2-0 in the third with a Miranda Soileau RBI single to drive in Morgan Mehaffey. 

UMHB cut the gap to one in the next frame with an Allyse Castillo single to right field, scoring Kyler Sanders. The Cru added the equalizer in the fifth inning when Sanders hit in Lindsey Polleschultz with an RBI single to left field.  

McMurry pulled ahead again in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs off an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. UMHB responded in the next frame with a two-RBI single to center field from Madeline Stephenson, scoring Bralyn Belk and Castillo to knot up the contest. The War Hawks secured the 6-4 win in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring on a passed ball and an RBI single. 

Chloee Mason started in the circle for the Cru, taking the loss after throwing 5.1 innings with four earned runs on nine hits. Eileigh Whyte also made an appearance, pitching the final two outs for UMHB. The Cru outhit the War Hawks 14-10, led by Polleschultz with four hits. 

UMHB returns to action on Wednesday, March 12th in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against Trinity University (Texas) in San Antonio.
