MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team fell to Concordia University Texas in the opening round of the 2024 American Southwest Conference Softball Championship Tournament Thursday morning in Marshall.
Concordia Texas got on the board first, scoring on a controversial interference call at home plate for a 1-0 lead. The Tornados added one more run in that inning, scoring off an RBI double for a two-run margin.
The Tornados added another run in the third off another RBI double for a 3-0 lead. UMHB answered in the bottom of that frame, scoring
Taylor Henken with an RBI single from
Bryton Wright to cut the gap to two.
The Cru put a runner on in the fourth but the Tornado defense thwarted that effort and kept UMHB off the bags for the remainder of the game. CTX added one more run in the sixth to secure the 4-1 win.

Bailey Frenzel, Wright and Henken each recorded a hit for the Cru.
Chloee Mason took the loss in the circle, throwing 5.2 innings. Mason gave up four runs, two earned, on seven hits in the outing.
Carmen Vela pitched in relief, throwing 1.1 shutout innings.
The Cru will move to the elimination bracket of the tournament in a 12:30 p.m. contest on Friday, May 10
th.
