BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Trinity University Friday evening in Belton. The loss dropped the Cru to 3-3-1 on the season while the Tigers improved to 5-0-2.
Hayden Owens opened the game with a big save on a Trinity penalty kick in the third minute to keep the game scoreless.
Yannis Benae put the Cru ahead in the 17
th minute, heading a throw-in from
Carter Simpson into the top left corner for a 1-0 UMHB lead. The Tigers responded in the 23rd minute off a goal from Hunter Cain to even the game at one. Trinity pressed late but the Cru defense held, limiting the Tigers to just one goal and four shots on frame in the first half.
Trinity took over in the second half, scoring goals in the 64
th minute and 85
th minute for the 3-1 win. Martinez led the Cru with two shots while six other Crusaders each added one. Trinity totaled 13 shots in the match putting seven on frame.
Hayden Owens played the duration in the net, making four saves in the contest.
UMHB returns to action on Wednesday, September 25
th in a 7:30 p.m. contest against the University of St. Thomas (Texas) at the Cru Soccer Field in Belton.
