BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team dropped a close contest to University of St. Thomas Wednesday evening in Belton, falling 2-1 to the Celts. The loss dropped the Cru 3-4-1 overall while the Celts improved to 3-2.
Hani Ahmadie scored the go-ahead goal for the Celts, finding the low right corner in the 12
th minute for the lead.
Karsen Macias evened it for the Cru in the 20
th minute, one-touching a pass from
Xjavier Martinez to knot the game at one.
UMHB outshot the Celts 9-6 in the contest, putting five total shots on frame.
Sawyer Young tallied two shots on frame while
Chase Duhon,
Yannis Benae and Macias each added one.
The Celts went back ahead in the 79
th minute when Daniel Castro scored an unassisted goal for the lead. UMHB pressured but was unable to score again, falling 2-1 to the Celts.
UMHB totaled 18 shots in the contest, led by
Sawyer Young with five. Young put three shots on frame while
Chase Duhon and Yannis Banae each added two.
Hayden Owens played the full game in the net for the Cru, making four saves.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 28
th in a 7:30 p.m. contest against the University of Texas at Dallas at the Cru Soccer Field in Belton.
