AUSTIN, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball took down Concordia Texas 3-1 Friday evening in Austin. This win improves UMHB's record to 14-4 on the season while the Tornados fall to 9-9.
The match opened with back-and-forth play, until the Cru pushed ahead at the 10-6 mark, highlighted by kills from Baylee Mobley and Natalie Hughes. The Tornados answered, tying the game up at 12. UMHB gained some ground, taking a 15-12 lead, until Concordia responded with another tied score at 16-16. The Tornados went on a six-point run to hold a 21-17 upper hand, taking the set 25-22.
The Tornados opened set three with an early three-point run to take a quick 3-0 lead. Three Concordia attack errors led to a knotted match at 3-3. The game played on with 10 tied scores until the Cru went ahead on a five-point run to take the 22-17 upper hand. A kill from Baylee Mobley and a Tornado attack error sealed the 25-20 set win for the Cru.
Set three remained tightly contested with 10 knotted scores through 16-16. The Cru then earned a four-point lead consisting of two kills from Baylee Mobley. UMHB closed it out with a 25-19 set victory to take the 2-1 lead.
The Cru had a dominant start to set four, taking an early 10-1 lead, capitalized by four kills from Baylee Mobley along with one from Kaysen Miller. The Tornados trailed by at least seven points through the entirety of the set, with the Cru taking the contest 25-9, sealing the 3-1 match victory.
Baylee Mobley led the Cru with 16 kills, 10 digs, and three assists. Kaysen Miller led defensively adding 13 digs, while Kendall Harrington tallied 40 assists.
UMHB returns to action in Marshall on Friday, October 17th in a 6:00pm contest against East Texas Baptist.
