Volleyball falls to No. 2 East Texas Baptist

MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team took a 3-0 loss at No. 2 East Texas Baptist University Friday evening in Marshall. The win improved the Tigers to 22-0 on the year and 4-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cru moved to 14-5 overall and 1-4 in league play.
 
Set one opened with back-and-forth play until the Tigers used a three-point series to take a two-point lead. UMHB mirrored with three consecutive points, taking a one-point lead before the match went back into point-for-point action. ETBU pulled ahead with a 6-1 run to take a four-point lead at 17-13. UMHB pulled back within two but was unable to catch up, surrendering the 25-20 win to the Tigers.
 
ETBU jumped to a 7-2 lead in the second set and held the high ground. UMHB fought back, tying the set at 15 but the Tigers responded with five unanswered to put the Cru away, winning the set 25-20. ETBU opened the third set on an 8-1 run. UMHB fought back, pulling within four at 7-11 but the Tigers put together another short series to go up by eight. The Tigers led 20-11 but UMHB surged, going on a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to five at 21-16. A pair of ETBU points put the Tigers back up by seven. A kill from Kendall Harrington put the Cru at 17 before an ETBU kill gave the Tigers set point. UMHB fought back, scoring four before the Tigers finally finished the set with a 25-21 win.
 
Natalie Hughes led the Cru with 10 kills while Dravyn Hurd added seven. UMHB hit 27 total kills in the match with Kendall Harrington tallying 21 assists. Defensively, Angie Garcia led with 10 digs while Hughes put up a team-high three blocks.
 
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, October 23rd in a 6 p.m. contest against Hardin-Simmons University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton. The Cru will close out home action the next day in a 6 p.m. Senior Night against Howard Payne University.
