BROWNWOOD, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball defeated Howard Payne with a 3-0 sweep Tuesday evening in Brownwood. With this win, the Cru's record improves to 13-4 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-10.
The Yellow Jackets opened the match on top with an early 7-0 lead. Peyton Sedlacek then put the Cru on the board with a kill. UMHB went on a five-point streak to cut into Howard Payne's lead 12-7. Dravyn Hurd added the tying point at the 16-16 mark with a kill off a Kendall Harrington assist. From this point on, the Cru held control of the lead, sealing the first-set 25-18 victory with a kill and service ace from Baylee Mobley.
Natalie Hughes jumped into action in set two, giving the Cru a 2-0 lead with back-to-back kills. Hughes along with Kaysen Miller, Cameron Pesek and Dravyn Hurd led the UMHB net with kills throughout the set, keeping the Yellow Jackets in the single digits until the 20-10 point. The set concluded with kills from Hughes and Peyton Sedlacek to close out the 25-17 win.
UMHB cruised through the third set, tallying 17 kills and holding the lead for the entirety of the frame. The Cru rounded out the sweep victory with a 25-16 third-set win.
Dravyn Hurd led the Cru offensively with 12 kills, followed closely by Natalie Hughes who added 11. Peyton Sedlacek led with 13 digs, while Kendall Harrington added 39 assists, along with Baylee Mobley who tallied three service aces.
UMHB returns to action in Austin on Friday, October 10th in a 7:00pm match up against Concordia University Texas.
