GEORGETOWN, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer took down Southwestern in a 4-1 match on Wednesday evening. The Cru's record improved to 4-4-4 while the Pirates fell to 4-4-3 on the season.
Just five minutes after a UMHB kickoff to start the match, Audrey Harlien scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Ella Ruff, putting the Cru up 1-0. After UMHB added a few more shots on goal in the first frame, Harlien found the back of the net in the 27th minute for her second goal of the night off a Kendall Hiatt assist, extending the Cru's lead to 2-0. Shots on goal from Allie Angell and Abigail Hickman threatened the Pirates defense, but the total held up at 2-0 to go into half time.
The Cru hit the ground running to open the second frame with a 49th minute goal from Gracie Ruthven off an assist from Jayme Dowell, extending UMHB's lead to 3-0. The Pirates responded in the 64th minute with a goal to chip into the Crusader 3-1 lead. UMHB answered again with a goal from Taylor Millard off a corner kick assist from Aubrey Pelczar in the 72nd minute.
Audrey Harlien added two goals off three shots on goal. Gracie Ruthven, who also added a goal, totaled four shots in the match alongside Abigail Hickman who added four of her own. Morgan Oliver spent 72 minutes in the net tallying 5 saves. Elise Bienvenu closed out the game at goalkeeper adding three saves.
UMHB returns to action at home for the Kick Cancer game on Saturday, October 11th against Hardin-Simmons.
