BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned a one-goal win over Hardin-Simmons University Saturday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 5-4-4 on the season and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls fell to 7-2-2 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
Hardin-Simmons outshot the Cru 8-4 in the first half but Audrey Tipton made six saves to keep UMHB in the contest.
Malyn Martinson put the Cru ahead in the 56
th minute, scoring a penalty kick goal for a 1-0 UMHB lead. Hardin-Simmons pressed but UMHB's defense held. The Cowgirls put a trio of shots on goal with 10 minutes to play but a pair of saves from
Aubrey Tipton and a header save from
Abigail Hickman kept the game at a 1-0 Cru lead.
UMHB totaled 11 shots in the contest, putting eight on frame. Hickman and Ruthven each tallied three shots with Hickman putting all three on goal. Tipton faced 18 shots in the contest, making 10 saves in the shutout.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 18
th in a 5 p.m. contest at Howard Payne University in Brownwood.
