BROWNWOOD, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer earned a 2-0 win Saturday evening in Brownwood. This win improves the Cru's record to 6-4-4 on the season with a 4-0 mark in conference action. Howard Payne fell to 5-7 overall and 0-4 in league play.
The Cru opened action with two shots on goal from Ella Ruff and Trinity Hoffmann in the second and fifth minutes, but were both denied by the Yellow Jackets' goalkeeper. Aubrey Tipton added a save in the 17th minute to keep Howard Payne scoreless. The half closed out 0-0, with the Cru adding five shots while the Yellow Jackets added just one.
Leila Cunningham broke through for UMHB with a 55th minute goal off an assist from Malyn Martinson to put the Cru up 1-0. Abigail Hickman followed just three minutes later with a goal in the 58th minute assisted by Kamryn Taylor to extend the lead 2-0. The Yellow Jackets attempted to answer shortly after with a shot on goal, but Aubrey Tipton made a save to keep the Yellow Jackets off the board. The Cru held the Yellow Jackets scoreless, sealing the 2-0 victory.
UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 18-4 in the match. Gracie Ruthven led the Cru with five shots, putting three on goal. Kacie Flanakin added two shots on goal, with seven other Crusaders adding one each. Aubrey Tipton earned the win in the net adding two saves.
UMHB returns to action at home on Tuesday, October 18th in a 5:00pm matchup against Texas Lutheran.
