SEGUIN, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball dropped a 5-4 decision to Texas Lutheran University Tuesday night in Seguin. The loss moves the Cru's record to 3-1 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 4-0.
Riley Bender opened the game with a two-run homerun, scoring
Alejandro Sanchez III who walked in the previous at-bat, giving the Cru an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
James McGlumphy made his start in the bottom of the first with a seven-pitch three up, three down inning, adding one strike out. The Bulldogs responded tying the game at two in the bottom of the second inning with a single through the left side, scoring two runs on a left field error. McGlumphy got out of the inning with another strikeout swinging.
The game went on scoreless through the bottom of the third inning.
Alejandro Sanchez III singled to third base in the top of the fourth inning before stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball. UMHB scored the go-ahead run off an RBI single through the right side from
JC Hughes, scoring Sanchez. The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 4-3 lead off two RBI singles. The Cru went scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, followed by a one-run inning for Texas Lutheran, giving them a 5-3 lead. UMHB added one more run to cut into the Bulldogs' lead in the top of the sixth off a hit from
Tyler Martin, scoring
Riley Bender. The Bulldogs took the win with a score of 5-4.
Riley Bender went 2-3 at the plate with a two-run homerun, while
JC Hughes and
Tyler Martin added one RBI each.
James McGlumphy pitched five complete innings, adding five strikeouts on the night.
