BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team earned a come-from-behind win in the 2025 home opener Wednesday night at Red Murff Field in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 5-3 on the season while Southwestern fell to 6-4.
Southwestern opened scoring in the contest, putting up two runs off a single in the top of the second. UMHB equalized the game in the bottom of the third, scoring
Cameron Talburt off an RBI single from
Tyler Betts. Betts moved to third off a passed ball and wild pitch, scoring on a
Riley Bender double to knot the contest at two.
Shane Melick opened the fourth inning with a walk, then stole second and advanced to third on a single by
Easton Cline. Melick then stole home, giving the Cru a 3-2 lead.
James McGlumphy threw a perfect frame in the fifth and sixth innings to keep UMHB on top.
Cameron Talburt led off the seventh with a deep triple to the centerfield wall.
Carson Hagan scored him on the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly before
Shane Melick singled to third, scoring
Tyler Betts for a 5-2 lead.
Nicklas Fenner came in to pitch for McGlumphy, throwing two perfect innings in the eighth and ninth for the save.
Tyler Betts went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Trae Deck III and
Cameron Talburt each added two hits while Talburt also had a pair of runs scored. McGlumphy earned the win on the mound, throwing seven innings with two earned runs. He struck out eight batters, allowing just six hits in 28 batters faced. UMHB totaled five runs on 11 hits while the Pirates had two runs on six hits with one error.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, March 11
th in a 6 p.m. contest against the University of St. Thomas at Red Murff Field in Belton.
