BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Schreiner University 3-0 Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 7-1 on the season while the Mountaineers fell to 5-3.
 
UMHB opened the first set with three consecutive points before Schreiner evened the set at three. The Cru pulled away with three more points before the Mountaineers cut the gap back down to two. UMHB gained distance at the 8-10 mark, scoring 10 straight points to go ahead 20-18. Peyton Sedlacek served nine of those points with Natalie Hughes recording two kills. Schreiner broke the streak at 20-9 but the Cru allowed them just one more point in the 25-10 first-set win.
 
The second set played back-and-forth until the Cru used a 7-0 run midway through the set to go up 15-7. UMHB extended that lead to double-digits at the 20-10 mark but the Mountaineers fought back, pulling within four. The Cru finished the set with a 25-20 win.
 
Set three played closer with seven tied scores early. The Cru pulled away with a 3-0 run and held onto the narrow lead, going up by four late and finishing the match with a 25-20 win.
 
Baylee Mobley led the Cru with 11 kills while Natalie Hughes added 10 and Kaysen Miller had eight. UMHB hit .291 in the match totaling 48 kills on 127 attacks. Kendall Harrington tallied 34 assists while Peyton Sedlacek served three aces.
 
Mobley led the Cru defensively with 21 digs, followed by Sedlacek with 14 and Ella Nowlin with 11. Hughes was the Cru's leading blocker, tallying three with Harrington adding two.
 
UMHB returns to action in a 9 a.m. match on Friday, September 12^th. The Cru will also play a pair of home matches on Saturday, September 13^th.
