BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Alverno College 3-0 Friday morning in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 8-1 on the season while the Inferno fell to 1-5.
The first set played back-and-forth until the Cru used a 6-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. Alverno answered with three more points but the Cru finished off the match, outscoring the Inferno 11-2 to earn the 25-15 win.
UMHB pulled away in the second set, cruising to a 7-1 lead early. The Cru extended that lead to double digits at the 12-2 mark, cruising to a 19-7 margin and winning the set 25-15. Alverno opened the third set with four unanswered points but the Cru responded with a 7-0 streak to go ahead by three. The Inferno broke the streak but UMHB answered again, scoring five straight to take a 13-5 upper hand. The Cru closed the set with a 12-2 run, taking the third set 25-10 for a 3-0 sweep over Alverno.
Allie Thompson and
Kaysen Miller led the Cru with seven kills each while
Baylee Mobley added six. UMHB hit .284 with 33 kills on 81 total attacks.
Kendall Harrington led the Cru with 17 assists while
Angie Garcia added six and
Avery Gray tallied five.
Baylee Mobley served six points from the service line with
Dravyn Hurd adding three. Defensively, Garcia led with 10 digs followed by Harrington, Mobley and Nowlin all with seven.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 13
th in a 1:30 p.m. match against Methodist University and a 6 p.m. contest against LeTourneau University.
