Women’s Soccer claims conference-opening win against Howard Payne

BELTON, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer earned a 1-0 win against Howard Payne University Thursday evening to open American Southwest Conference action. This win improves the Cru's record to 2-4-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets fall to 5-4 with an 0-1 mark in league play.

The Cru and the Yellow Jackets had a shot-for-shot battle to open the match, with two key saves from UMHB goalkeeper Audrey Tipton. Allie Angell broke through in the 35th minute with the go-ahead goal off an assist from Kaitlynn Neill, putting the Cru up 1-0. Audrey Harlien added one more shot on goal that was denied by the Yellow Jackets to round out first half action.

UMHB came out hot in the second frame, taking four shots in the first ten minutes, with three of them on goal. Audrey Tipton added two back-to-back stops, along with one in the final minute of play, denying the Yellow Jackets the opportunity to get on the board and securing the 1-0 victory for the Cru.

UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 21-7. Gracie Ruthven led the Cru offensively adding seven shots with three on goal. Trinity Hoffmann and Audrey Harlien also added three shots on goal each. Audrey Tipton earned the win in the net playing all 90 minutes, tallying five saves.

UMHB returns to action at home on Saturday, September 27th in a 5:00pm contest against No. 10 Trinity University.
