VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team drew a 1-1 tie in a matchup against Virginia Wesleyan Sunday morning in Virginia Beach. This moves the Cru's record to 1-1-2 on the season.
The Marlins opened the match with a shot on goal in the third minute, but goalkeeper Emma Edwards denied the opportunity with a save in the net. Virginia Wesleyan continued to take shots but could not find the back of the net. Allie Angell added a shot on goal but was stopped by the Marlins goalkeeper. The game remained scoreless until the final minutes of the first half when Leila Cunningham scored off an assist from Kendall Hiatt, putting the Cru up 1-0 going into halftime.
The Marlins outshot the Cru 10-3 in the first frame with both teams tallying two on goal.
Emma Edwards continued to hold down the net in second half action, adding two key saves in the 72nd and 83rd minutes. The Marlins responded in the 88th minute with a goal to close out the match in a 1-1 draw.
Leila Cunningham and Allie Angell each added a shot on goal, along with Trinity Hoffmann who added one shot. Emma Edwards spent all 90 minutes in the net, recording four saves.
The Cru returns to action at home on Friday, September 12th in a 7:00pm matchup against No. 7 Misericordia.
